In a ceremony attended by Brigitte Zypries, German Federal Minister of Economics and Energy, Marco Fuchs, the Chief Executive Officer of Bremen-based space and technology group OHB, presented a donation in the form of a cheque to the orbitall discovery center in Berlin. “The space industry is dependent on talented young people with an interest in technology. With our donation, we can directly contribute to encouraging boys and girls to discover or further build on their interest in space.” The financial contribution made by OHB will be used to extend and deepen the scope for experiments offered by orbitall. The space-related experiments are primarily targeted at middle and high school students.
orbitall has its home on the premises of FEZ-Berlin and is a genuine crowd puller – especially when “real live” astronauts such as Sigmund Jähn, Reinhold Ewald, Thomas Reiter and Ulrich Walter pay a visit. Established in 2013, spaceclub_berlin is a joint project with the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The club is targeted at school students all over Germany aged 12 years and over who are interested in space flight and astronomy. Via the club, they can talk to scientists and astronauts, take part in excursions to space centers and conduct joint research and experiments. “As a father myself, I am particularly pleased that young people have an opportunity of gaining technical knowledge in such an entertaining and exciting manner as that permitted by orbitall and spaceclub_berlin,” adds Marco Fuchs.
