Koblenz/Bremen, 11 September 2024. OHB Digital Connect GmbH, a subsidiary of the German space and technology group OHB SE, has been commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) in Koblenz to develop operational concepts for battle damage assessment using (partially) automated processes.
The concept study focuses on the use of modern methods to obtain information, from the evaluation of sensor data to the assessment of the analysis results. Possible image processing methods are to be extended by artificial intelligence in order to realise physical, functional and impact analyses. The aim is to create an initial system concept to optimise situation analyses and thus automate and accelerate impact analysis.
"Solving this task with camera data from aircraft is a necessity for the Bundeswehr. It helps to maintain an overview and avoid unnecessary effort in target engagement," explains Susanne Heimberger, Project Manager at OHB Digital Connect. "For us, it is a great opportunity to apply our expertise in the areas of sensors and cameras, image processing and artificial intelligence."
OHB Digital Connect leads the study as the prime contractor. The main focus of the project is the work package on the definition of analysis methods, for which OHB is responsible. The project partners and subcontractors include ESG, Fraunhofer FHR, Fraunhofer IOSB and IABG.
